Home and Hockey

Home weekend was hockey weekend this passed weekend when I went home. For my dad's birthday the my dad's co-workers took the family to a Cincinnati Cyclones hockey game. It was bobble-head night. Twister, the mascot and my bobble-head, is staring at me right now. And he is bobbling.

They rented a box, which had a nice inside lounge connected to a twelve seat balcony that stretched over the ice. We were situated on one of the corners. Through the night we had pizza and drinks and then the rink people bought my dad an ice cream cake and dad got to ride the Zamboni.

The cyclones won . . . I don't remember the score.

Oh and we did dinner before the game. It was a family style jig. At the end of dinner I taught all the little kids, and some of the adults, how to put spoons on their noses. At one point I had a spoon on my nose and my chin. There are pictures, but I don't have them. My sister has to send them too me but when I get them, you bet I will share them.

And now I'm back at school. It snowed. It was supposed to snow more than it did but yesterday it got warm enough for the snow to become rain. I almost fell down some steps because everything iced over. And the rest of the week is going to be cloudy and mid-thirties so the snow should stick around for a bit.

Valentine's day is coming up. I forgot. And then I remembered, obviously. Any plans, any plans, I think I'm going to see a movie with Zoe and Adele. We are all dateless so we decided to spend Valentine's day together.

Have a great one.

Home, Home, Home

So, as the title implies, I am going home this weekend. Yay! I am so excited because at home the family and some family friends are going to see a hockey game. I'm sure some of you remember the Dallas Stars-Columbus Blue Jackets hockey game that I was so excited about and blogged about. Well, this one isn't NHL teams but it still hockey. We are seeing the Cincinnati Cyclones and I don't know who they are playing. I know the last time we went to a hockey game, a Mighty Ducks game when they were still in Cincy, they played the Houston Aeros, the farm team for the Dallas Stars and I yelled and screamed and wore my Stars jersey and upset the people around me. It was so much fun.

And I might see John when I go home because he is going to Cincy for a music conference Thursday through Saturday and I told him that if he gets a free minute call me and I'll show him my home. I'm excited.

Oh what else, when the weather clears up a bit and my leg isn't achy I am going to take some pictures for my new blog idea. It's new, it's amazing, it's classic Samantha. So get yaselves ready.

A quick shout out to Jessica who posted a link to a textbook website on my previous blog in the comments section. All ya'll who need books might want to take a look at it and thanks again Jessica.

Ooo! today Hasani, as seen in HasaniOWU, taught me how to change the colors and stuff on my blog so I think I'm going to play with that a bit. Nothing to crazy but just something to shake up the whiteness a little bit. Don't get me wrong, nothing it wrong with a white background but I think I'm going to spice it up a bit and give it some personality. Let me know what ya'll think.

Have a great one.

Pictures: One and Two are Dallas themed. My Stars are top of their devision baby! Woot! Third is John. Fourth is me.

SLUshing It

I believe in the previous post I mentioned SLUsh Week and my covering it for the Transcript. Did I tell ya'll about SLUs and SLUsh . . . I don't remember so here we go again.

>Warning College Content: At OWU there are nine single family living units (small houses) that were bought by the university and turned into living units for students. Each house holds ten to fifteen students, sophomores through seniors, and each house has a different theme. Themes: Modern Foreign Language, Women's House, Creative Arts House (we have two because the first one was so popular), House of Thought, House of the Black Culture, International House, and Tree House. The purpose of the SLUs is the give back to the OWU community in some way so each semester, each student in the house my complete a house project that both goes with its theme and gives back to OWU.

>Warning College Content Continued: So what is SLUsh. SLUsh is the process a student interested in living in a SLU goes through. each house opens it doors to prospective housemates with an event. All of this happens in one week, which was last week, which I covered for the Transcript, which was amazing fun. A little tiring but fun.

This year is exciting in the SLU world because there are three new SLUs being proposed which means that one of our current SLUs could be replaced. The proposals are Science House, House of Health, and the Inner Faith house. I'm throwing my support behind Science House becasue one, my roommates at heading it up, and two, I think the idea is practical on a campus where there are a lot of science majors.

But yes, last week my life was SLUsh and part of it was done froggy voiced, again. I swear it is our funky temperatures. We went from 50 to 23 overnight. It's not global warming my friends, it is simply Ohio.

Have a good one.

An English Major Lives Here

My roommates, all three of them are in some science field. As we've developed, I am an English major. I am at a disadvantage but I would bet that if someone walked into the room the first thing they would say is, "An English major lives here."

Why?
1)Well, it might be the definitions of Slush written on our door whiteboard to promote next weeks SLUsh week. Yes, next week the Small Living Units (SLU)s on campus open there doors to new members. Each the ten is holding an event to introduce curious folk to the house and the mates.

2)It might also be the stack of books with titles like "On Writing Well"-Zinsser and "STYLE" -Williams along with anthologies of essays and dictionaries and glossaries of literary terms. (These are definitely not scattered across my desk and table and bed.)

3)It might be the books stacked on top of the educational ones that are just for fun.

4)It might be the hermit-like darkness that I find myself keeping our room in because bright lights are annoying.

5)It might be my inability to hold a conversation and act appropriately in public . . . haha, old stereotypes are fun. (I can act appropriately in public, really. I'm a tour guide. I have too.)

6)It might be the overall cleanliness of my desk, room, my folded clothes, my made bed, my organized shelves all because, like a lot of writers, I have this aversion to actually sit and write because there is something that needs done that is way more important than say, writing a book or writing a paper. (no lie, one of my educational books told me this and I recognize this quality in myself.)

That's how people know an English major lives here.

Pictures: My camera is currently tied up in the Transcript. I am doing some photojournalism for the school paper and while I've got some update pictures that actually relate to this semester, I am going to upload them until I've got the Transcript work completed so, we go into the archives.
Picture 1: Is from the OMT trip that Mery, Selby and I went on. Seeing as how I was talking about roommates, I thought at least one roommate picture was appropriate. Picture 2: The Michigan trip. Zoe, Adele, and me playing on the playground. Picture 3: New Years, I'm watching you! Picture 4: Me, in my room, playing with my belt. It's wrapped around my head. But ya'll can see that from the picture.

Have a great one.

I, Me, Cold.

Hey kiddos.

It was an exciting week here at OWU. We had near zero temperatures and snowflakes. Winter is officially upon us in central Ohio. Delaware is a beautiful city when it snows. The old houses and central buildings are storybook like in their snow covered steeples and icicled overhangs. The sidewalks are crunchy with packed snow and ice. The roads are sometimes impassable. My favorite part of snow is the quiet it brings. There is something truly different about silence with snow and silence without. Everything is muffled. It's just you. It's magic.

Work has taken off here. I'm reading a lot. Some of you are thinking, Samantha you an English major, that is your job. Those of you who are thinking that are correct, I am an English major. Those of you who weren't thinking, welcome to the wonderful world I am operating in. I am not upset with the work. All of my classes are major associated which is what I yearned for last semester. Now, its about scheduling stuff right so I can get done all that needs to get done. But I am happy to be busy. All my books are bought, a painful day, and one is on its way.
College hint--try online searches for books before committing to bookstore prices. The bookstore is convenient and I use it for all my book buying but if your in a money bind, there are some great websites out there--college hint ended.

What else what else. Oh! Get excited my friend because on Monday, not today because today is nearly over but Monday, OWU has a visit day. Come hang out for the day. Go on tours, go to programs, eat lunch, visit a student panel, go on an encore tour with yours truly, and then go home with thoughts of OWU in your mind. I do recommend visit days. They are a wonderful way to get info about a university as well as interact with its student body.

Have a great one.

The pictures are from an Easton Adventure, and last years snowy student center, and a comma. Enjoy.

Haha Something . . .

I have returned to school and to a reliable internet connection. At least it is more reliable than the one I steal at home . . . see its a good lesson for everyone. Theft is an unreliable source of anything. If you have a story to contradict me, I would appreciate not hearing it because I don't want to get myself wrapped up in your crimes. Thanks for your consideration.

Anyway, class today. After nearly a month of not going to class to think about going to class is odd. At swing dance last night I made the class realization and now that it is an hour and half away it is even more real than last night. I'm excited about this semester because my classes are more major related, unlike last semester where they were more graduation related.

So, my last semester was definitely used to get closer to the liberal arts section of my education. Do I recommend doing what I? Sure, if you want to and if you don't want to, don't. See, simplicity is definitely the easiest way to do things.

I have two classes today and tours this afternoon. All ya'll should come visit me on my tours.
Even if you don't go on my tour just come visit. Say "hi". Saying "hi" is a great way to start a conversation. You won't find too many people who dispute that fact.
I also give tours Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday afternoon. I stack the beginning of my week so the end of the week was a nice
lead-in to "relax".

Have a great one.

Pictures: These are New Year celebration pictures. Yay! Enjoy the antics. Picture 1: Katie attacking Mike but she miscalculated because Mike's arms are much longer than Katie is,
especially bent down as she is. Haha, long arms. Picture 2: Liv and me, you would be surprised too if an eye was creeping up on you. Haha, eyeball. Picture 3: When chip-clips attack. Haha, chip-clip. Picture 4: Stupid pretzel trick starring Mike. Haha, pretzel.

New Year, Same Laziness

Yes readers, the title says it all. Ya'll didn't honestly believe that just because 08 arrived I would update any more regularly while at home, on break, without internet. Well if you did you are just a silly goose now aren't ya.

The new year celebration and rockin' in Cincy. What did I do? I went to Katie's and partied it up with Mike, Liv, Erin, Katie, and Sang Mee. Boom baby and did we have a great time. We had a lovely dinner of pasta and bread. Mmm bread. And then we played games: Dirty Minds and Taboo. My team kicked butt in Taboo and if you haven't played Dirty Minds, well, it is any eye opener into the finer points of dirty-clean thinking. Then we celebrated the new year with a group toast.

To be honest, we really didn't even realize it was near midnight until like ten minutes before. Then we ran around and got the sparkling juice (it was apple and delicious) ready and that wasted just enough time till midnight. We didn't watch the ball drop we just stared at Katie's cell phone and then had a group yay.

How has the new year been so far? Relaxing. We got snow. This week all the friends are back at school and Katie is in Russia so I'm loning it and I'm not minding. Today I had lunch out and worked on my book out and it was very nice. At the end of this week Liv'll be home and we have chinese plans. I can't leave Cincy without the traditional chinese amazingness and snow prevented that before Liv left for school.

Have a good one.
