Up from the Chair

Hey all,

I am moving! yay! I've been sick, literally knocked on my butt for the passed week. It was not a good time. But now I am back and moving and yay!

Oy' I'm trying to remember what's happened. My birthday was last week. That was fun. The roommates and I made rice krispie treats with a rice krispie treat maker that Selby's mom sent her. Basically it was a make your own shape jig and we made our own shapes. I made a pig and a cow. I ate the cow and I gave the pig to Megan.

All of the dorms here do come equipped with a kitchen and while it isn't state of the art technology, it works. I know for Fat Tuesday, Selby and Mery made pancakes in the kitchen and girls on our floor use it all the time. It's a handy touch of home if you are tired of campus food and in need of something home cooked.

Next year Zoe and I will be living in Austin Manor. I am so excited. I will have a nice big kitchen then and I can bake and bake and make dinner and bake more. Austin is OWU's apartment style living. We have a studio apartment type jig. I am jumping up and down excited. Mmm, bread.

Anyway, oh what else, Science House, the SLU Mery and Selby are proposing gets proposed and hopefully accepted on Friday. I am excited for them and tossing my support behind Science House. I believe it will be a good addition to the SLU community because our campus does have many science majors and the purpose of the house is to give them a place to congregate outside the science center. It feels relevant.

Have a great one.

A Pondering on Words 3

Dear Readers,

I have made a mistake in assuming my writing lends itself to humor and irony. Perhaps I will add a disclaimer next time (humor). For those that were offended please understand that this blog is strictly governed by the first amendment. For those who were not, thank you for indulging me. For those who don't care, I don't either (irony).

Yours truly,

Why Politicians Doesn't Deserve My Time

Yesterday, Chelsea Clinton visited OWU.

Here's why politicians are stupid:

1) They are never on time. I don't want my president being a snobby jerk and thumbing his/her late nose at other leaders. If he/she is late, they should be locked out of the meeting.

2) Being president is a job. If I were late for my job, I would be reprimanded and if I made a habit of it, I would be fired. If a doctor is late for surgery, a person dies. If a businessman is late for a meeting, thousands of dollars is lost. I'm not asking for perfection, I'm asking for promptness. Thirty minutes is inexcusable.

3) In all honesty, I didn't go to Bishop Cafe to see her. I went there to get lunch, like I do every day. Guy at the door, almost didn't let me in. He wanted me to sign some volunteer paper to get in. I didn't sign and went in anyway. Politicians are pushy.

4) By her being late, I missed her entire speech because I had to go work. Thank goodness one of us was being responsible. I know numerous people who missed class. Education rules over politician any day. It would have been sweet justice if everybody had left to go to class and she had no one to talk to because she was late. Oh well justice. Your powers baffle and amaze at the same time.

So, why don't politicians deserve my time? Because they don't give me any of theres.

Home and Hockey

Home weekend was hockey weekend this passed weekend when I went home. For my dad's birthday the my dad's co-workers took the family to a Cincinnati Cyclones hockey game. It was bobble-head night. Twister, the mascot and my bobble-head, is staring at me right now. And he is bobbling.

They rented a box, which had a nice inside lounge connected to a twelve seat balcony that stretched over the ice. We were situated on one of the corners. Through the night we had pizza and drinks and then the rink people bought my dad an ice cream cake and dad got to ride the Zamboni.

The cyclones won . . . I don't remember the score.

Oh and we did dinner before the game. It was a family style jig. At the end of dinner I taught all the little kids, and some of the adults, how to put spoons on their noses. At one point I had a spoon on my nose and my chin. There are pictures, but I don't have them. My sister has to send them too me but when I get them, you bet I will share them.

And now I'm back at school. It snowed. It was supposed to snow more than it did but yesterday it got warm enough for the snow to become rain. I almost fell down some steps because everything iced over. And the rest of the week is going to be cloudy and mid-thirties so the snow should stick around for a bit.

Valentine's day is coming up. I forgot. And then I remembered, obviously. Any plans, any plans, I think I'm going to see a movie with Zoe and Adele. We are all dateless so we decided to spend Valentine's day together.

Have a great one.

Home, Home, Home

So, as the title implies, I am going home this weekend. Yay! I am so excited because at home the family and some family friends are going to see a hockey game. I'm sure some of you remember the Dallas Stars-Columbus Blue Jackets hockey game that I was so excited about and blogged about. Well, this one isn't NHL teams but it still hockey. We are seeing the Cincinnati Cyclones and I don't know who they are playing. I know the last time we went to a hockey game, a Mighty Ducks game when they were still in Cincy, they played the Houston Aeros, the farm team for the Dallas Stars and I yelled and screamed and wore my Stars jersey and upset the people around me. It was so much fun.

And I might see John when I go home because he is going to Cincy for a music conference Thursday through Saturday and I told him that if he gets a free minute call me and I'll show him my home. I'm excited.

Oh what else, when the weather clears up a bit and my leg isn't achy I am going to take some pictures for my new blog idea. It's new, it's amazing, it's classic Samantha. So get yaselves ready.

A quick shout out to Jessica who posted a link to a textbook website on my previous blog in the comments section. All ya'll who need books might want to take a look at it and thanks again Jessica.

Ooo! today Hasani, as seen in HasaniOWU, taught me how to change the colors and stuff on my blog so I think I'm going to play with that a bit. Nothing to crazy but just something to shake up the whiteness a little bit. Don't get me wrong, nothing it wrong with a white background but I think I'm going to spice it up a bit and give it some personality. Let me know what ya'll think.

Have a great one.

Pictures: One and Two are Dallas themed. My Stars are top of their devision baby! Woot! Third is John. Fourth is me.

SLUshing It

I believe in the previous post I mentioned SLUsh Week and my covering it for the Transcript. Did I tell ya'll about SLUs and SLUsh . . . I don't remember so here we go again.

>Warning College Content: At OWU there are nine single family living units (small houses) that were bought by the university and turned into living units for students. Each house holds ten to fifteen students, sophomores through seniors, and each house has a different theme. Themes: Modern Foreign Language, Women's House, Creative Arts House (we have two because the first one was so popular), House of Thought, House of the Black Culture, International House, and Tree House. The purpose of the SLUs is the give back to the OWU community in some way so each semester, each student in the house my complete a house project that both goes with its theme and gives back to OWU.

>Warning College Content Continued: So what is SLUsh. SLUsh is the process a student interested in living in a SLU goes through. each house opens it doors to prospective housemates with an event. All of this happens in one week, which was last week, which I covered for the Transcript, which was amazing fun. A little tiring but fun.

This year is exciting in the SLU world because there are three new SLUs being proposed which means that one of our current SLUs could be replaced. The proposals are Science House, House of Health, and the Inner Faith house. I'm throwing my support behind Science House becasue one, my roommates at heading it up, and two, I think the idea is practical on a campus where there are a lot of science majors.

But yes, last week my life was SLUsh and part of it was done froggy voiced, again. I swear it is our funky temperatures. We went from 50 to 23 overnight. It's not global warming my friends, it is simply Ohio.

Have a good one.
