A Pondering on Words II

Over the past week I have been debating with an anonymous voice on the topic of religion and certain groups tactics for persuading people to join them. I am a welcomer of all religion. I like the diversity that it brings to an area and I like learning the differences of groups. In this debate though, I found a comment very interesting. The anonymous voice said, "You don't really encounter this [religious persuasion] in civilized parts of the country. I am guessing you are from somewhere rural."
From experience, I understand the mountains that word orders can create for us and I hope that if any life lessons are ingrained in these writings then one that is blatant is be careful with words. Words are a very important form of communication and whether written or spoken we all need to take notice of them and all possible meanings.
Good luck, good weekend.

That is interesting. Obviously, I don't agree with the assertion that the person made. Christians are everywhere in all walks of life. I am an urban guy so that proves that Christians exist in different parts of the spectrum.

This is very much the case - Christians DO exist in all geographical & topographical locations of our great nation.

The remark about civilization vs. rural in re: to religion is an elitist type of thought, and really cannot be backed up with fact.

Since OWU draws a good deal of its student population from the northeast, where religion isn't as strongly rooted as in the colonial era, its not a surprise if the person who said this is, in fact, from this area. But not knowing this, I cannot be for certain.

Thank you so much for your opinions. I am truly just trying to understand and allow people to see the power that words and their order have.
Thanks so much.

The comment is interestingly enough in some sense true. It was made in the context of the Campus Crusade for Christ activist. It is a fact that religious denominations are distributed differently across the country. But that's not what it was referring to; it was referring to the fact that the Campus Crusade for Crusade group draws a lot of criticism especially in parts of the country that is allergic to the prescription and the mission of the CCC group. Even in the Northeast, faith is important, perhaps very important in people's lives. But perhaps not by coincidence it is in those parts of the country that people and campuses are especially skeptical of the Campus Crusade for Christ group and many campuses have in fact banned its presence. Not by coincidence.
