CENSORED

It has been some time since I've had something more interesting than my life to blog about, so hear it goes. This past weekend was SLICE, which, if you've been following along I was hyped to the max about. And SLICE went very well. It was smooth and the rain held off long enough that the picnic was a success and I heard the band was wonderful. But something else happened at SLICE. About 275 copies of The Transcript, OWU's newspaper were removed from the racks of the Hamilton Williams Campus Center, the home turf of SLICE.

Apparently, a junior Admissions staff member had a problem with the cover of the April 2 issue that featured a beer bottle as the above the fold front page art. Said staff member thought it would be offensive to prospective families and removed the paper from the racks.

While my own opinions about the incident are rather intense, I find myself in a sticky position because I write for The Transcript and work for the Admissions Office. But, I reject all forms of censorship and am disappointed in the Admissions staff. That said, I am very happy with the way our editor in chief, Mike, and the rest of the editors handled the situation. I believe they acted with dignity and understanding.
